Metech were called out for an on-site photography session for our specialist castor's client Hougen. They had a heavy duty lifting jack that had been bespoke made for their client. It was being shipped (with another 3) the next day and so we went to the engineer, factory.. and to say the least, it was a bit cramped.
On arrival, the boss at the factory had one of the heavy duty jacking castor's suspended from a winch on an extended arm (which is actually another selling point showing portability of the unit, and included in the pic's). This was really handy, I don't know how you'd hold prop one of these up to tell the truth, imagine the weight and the fact you know it wouldn't 'stand' up..
Due to experience, I know it's all about the product, so the fact that it was a squeeze and there was a lot of shelving, steel and machinery around, it just meant I took more images to cover all the parts of the lifting jack, adjusting lighting, so I knew when I got back to the studio, I could construct the final images, with all parts of the product looking good.
Of course I had a roll of white paper & stands to give me a backdrop to help the product cut-out, later. I use a separate portable HD monitor when I do these jobs. It really helps zooming in on your frame, also being able to turn the monitor on a stand, back to you for visuals when you are arranging lighting etc. I used 5 x LED banks of lights which I moved and graded accordingly for the combination of shots I would need.
